The Sunny Corner rally was held on 21/04/12 near Bathurst approx 2.5 hours from Sydney.

With a unregistered vehicle permit in hand and pre scrutineering done prior to the event we travelled up late Friday to camp over night.

The AMSAG run event is 3 stages repeated for a total of 6 stages with over 111kms of competitive klm to keep you busy for the day.

From an early hour The Rally Head quarters in the old forestry camp filled up quickly with the 51 strong entries.

After a quick check in and sign on and a competitor briefing it was straight in to it. This type of rally is a blind rally, this means no pre run you just follow the directions (tulips ) in your road book.

Starting from the back of the field it was clear the Snake XP900′s could be competitive in this forest rally after catching and overtaking two cars in the first stage.

The tight twisty and rough sections were perfect for the Snake Racing XP900 it was in the long fast straights that we were struggling to get the top speeds that the cars were achieving.

After an action packed day of drifting in the dirt thru the forest tracks 39 of the 51 competitors finished.

We were still happy with a solid first in class and ninth overall for our first AMSAG event and hope to compete at many more events in the future.

Thanks to Peter Batt the event director and all the volunteers for a great event.

The Quit Forest Rally is always a spectator and competitor favourite, based

in WA’s No.1 holiday destination, Busselton and the picturesque inland town of Nannup.

Driver Nathan Chivers teamed with his dad Les for there second time

this season in the Snake Racing XP900 Side x Side. Dusty long tracks challenged the team with the air cleaners needing constant attention to maintain engine RPM.

A completely different type of thought was needed compared to the mud or rain they experienced in round 1 held in Victoria only weeks prior.

Keeping a cool head and not taking too many chances kept us up the front of the pack and out of the dust said Nathan Chivers.

The car ran great, with Dad on pace notes and the other competitors all keen to be at the finish line first made the event even more of a blast.

The Bosch Australian Rally Championship’s first ever ‘stadium’ or single venue round, Rally Calder presented by East Coast Bullbars, has been hailed a success by CEO of the Championship, Scott Pedder.
A total of 7557 people attended Rally Calder over the three days of the weekend despite over 60mm of rain in the lead up to the event, a sodden rain soaked day two and threatening skies on the morning of the final day.

Along with a strong, if rain affected, attendance Rally Calder attracted close to 160 entries across the Bosch ARC, CAMS Tarmac Championship, the Classic and Side by Side Rally Challenges and the extremely popular Car Club Forum

“Certainly the reaction from the competitors is extremely positive and we are already planning Rally Calder 2013 because this is certainly a concept that has huge potential and will grow given time and the right nurturing,” says Scott Pedder.
“Competitors have been unanimous in support for the event and many have already committed to competing at Rally Calder in 2013 which is extremely encouraging and makes the job of organising an event like this worthwhile.
“Any new event needs time to grow awareness as well as building interest and enthusiasm and that is what we will be doing over the next few years.
“We learned a lot over the weekend and we have plans to add more stages and to bring the action even closer to the fans, the list of changes is long, but we are committed to making this a spectacle and a fitting start to the Bosch Australian Rally Championship in 2013,” Scott added.
“The new Side by Side Rally Challenge was a huge hit and attracted enormous interest and we are planning some interesting and more extreme stages for the Polaris and Can Am machines,” Scott added.
Rally Calder proved popular online, attracting close to 12,000 hits on the new Honda Rally Live website, while Rally Radio was also a major attraction for rally fans who could not attend the event delivering live commentary on the sport’s own internet radio station.
All in All close to 20,000 hits were recorded on the Rally Calder section of rally.com.au since the event was announced late last year. Over 100,000 views were recorded across all the nations’ car club forums for the Just Car Insurance Forum Battle.
With the prospect of more factory teams, an increase in the number of SUV participants and even more Classics and Side by Sides the Rally Calder spectacle is sure to get even better.
Dates for the 2013 Rally Calder are yet to be formulated and will be announced later this year when the entire Bosch ARC calendar is finalised.

Australian Actor Shane Jacobson will be donning his race suit and helmet and climbing aboard a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo rally car to contest the opening round of this year’s Bosch Australian Rally Championship, Rally Calder presented by ECB.

As well as being a long time car and motor sport enthusiast Shane Jacobson is a one of Australia’s favourite personalities, an award-winning actor and presenter who has worked with some of the biggest names in the world for more than 25 years. Shane shot to fame playing the lead role in the heart-warming film “Kenny” and won the 2006 AFI Award for Best Lead Actor and the Australian Star of the Year Award. He has starred alongside the likes of Bryan Brown, Paul Hogan, Magda Szubanski, Lisa McCune, Marina Prior, Garry McDonald, Pia Miranda, Delta Goodrem, Rhonda Burchmore, Holly Valance, Jeremy Clarkson and Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush.
Shane says getting the chance to drive in the inaugural Rally Calder is a bit of dream come true. He is really excited about this opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Evo and sliding it around on the gravel.

“Being a part of Top Gear gave me the chance to hone my driving skills and I was lucky enough to get behind the wheel of some fairly wild machines and experience some fantastic roads around the world but this event that is being put on by ARC at Calder is truly something very different that I cant wait to be apart of .”

Jacobson will be prepared for the drive in the opening round of this year’s Bosch Australian Rally Championship by leading instructors and rally experts, Rallyschool with company principal Mick Ryan also supplying the Kumho Motorsport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo for the famous actor to drive.

According to CEO of the Bosch ARC, Scott Pedder having Shane Jacobson on board as a competitor at Rally Calder will be huge boost to the event as well as being a lot of fun.

“I know Shane is taking this opportunity very seriously but I am sure he will entertain us all throughout the event, on and off the rally track,” said Scott.

“When I sat down with Shane to discuss his involvement with the event I didn’t realise my face would be hurting so much from laughing, he is a very funny man,” he added.

“However Shane is also very serious about his rally debut and is a really enthusiastic and very talented driver, he has a collection of cars and is a keen follower of V8 Supercars and Utes but I reckon after his participation at Rally Calder he will be a rally enthusiast as well,” he said.

“Shane has promised he will entertain us and regale us with some observations of the sport at the presentation following the rally on Sunday night and that alone will be worth the price of entry,” Pedder added

Jacobson will be joined by a top level co-driver who is yet to be announced for Rally Calder which will pit some of Australia’s best rally drivers again more than 100 kilometres of challenging , gravel, tarmac and mixed stages within the Calder Park motorsports complex 23 km from Melbourne’s CBD
Rally Calder presented by ECB will be the first time a round of the Bosch ARC has been held in a single venue format allowing spectators to catch all he action in a simple and easily accessed location with all the action just a short walk from the car park.
