After a full on week and a little delay, 2700kms down in the new Juicy Lucy truck, the boys from Snake Racing (Wayne Murphy and Chris Taylor) and their Polaris finally arrived in Alice Springs on Tuesday morning. They went straight to documentation and were very excited to collect their bag of goodies all set for this weekends Finke Desert Race. The biggest of its kind in Australia. With 518 quads and bikes and 100 cars and buggies all lining up at the start in Alice Springs it is going to be HUGE.

After checking in at the local Caravan Park and meeting the locals at Woolworths and loving the support they are giving the event the boys still have some preparation before the race. Today they will be meeting with the guys from Fox Shocks for some shock testing.

New Velo Kevlar helmets have been unwrapped and the boys don’t wont to get them dirty. Looking mighty shiny.

For information over the weekend about the Finke Desert Race keep an eye on our Facebook page for all updates.

SNAKE RACING FACEBOOK HERE

Look out next week for the full run down on the event with heaps of pics and video on our website and Facebook page to check out.

One very enthusiastic Nissan Patrol owner visited Snake Racing recently and bought his first Rigid Industies LED light. He was so impressed he came back for more and can now light up the skies of the city.

As seen in the photos left and below he added to the front of the vehicle a 30″ E series on the ARB bull bar, a 40″ E Series on the front Rhino Roof Rack and 1 pair of D2 Dually’s with Orange lens covers. All of these individual lights are more than capable of lighting up huge areas on their own however our customer just loves what these lights can do.

Not only did he fit out the front of the vehicle he covered the back view as well with 2 Dually 1300 Lumen on the spare tyre and 2 Dually 1300 Lumen on the rear roof rack.

Look out if you are a Kangaroo or loan Fox, there’s definitely no hiding from this guy.

For details on the full range of Rigid Industries LED Lighting call or visit the showroom or click below to view our range online.

A beautiful, immaculately presented GQ Patrol wagon rolled up to the track and the driver flashed me a beaming smile.

Only a devoted four wheel driver would agree to meet me on one of the hottest days in Sydney for 2011, and still be excited about having a photo shoot.

I’d like to introduce you to Brook Reber, a passionate motor sport fan and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to vehicle exhaust systems. With a background in technical medical equipment supply and a successful muffler business, Hitech Mufflers, Brook is keen to share his knowledge and experience with anyone willing to learn.

For the Reber’s four wheel driving is a family affair with Brook’s son interested in 4WD adventure and travel it won’t be too long before you recognise this striking red and gold GQ wagon heading off onto the beaten track.

One on One with Brook

Q: What is the vehicle mostly used for?
Recreation & camping but also a daily driver for work

Q: What is the favourite thing about your truck?
The Jekyll and Hyde nature of the thing; easy & smooth on the road with good handling and yet off-road it is just unstoppable!

Q: Can you share some of your best build up experiences?
Following Ryan’s expert advice on setting up the suspension shortly after I got the truck was a revelation; It went from being an understeering, rolly pig to a near-neutral handler on the road, yet still with excellent travel and bump absorption off-road. The previous owner thought he could do it himself and found out that too much adjustment gives you many ways to get it wrong!

Q: What about some of your worst build up experiences?
Trying (still) to sort out the crappy LPG system fitted the previous owner had fitted by Midas at Rockdale NSW! Print that, it might shame ‘em into doing something about it!

Q: What is your best four wheel driving moment?
The first time we put the truck through its paces at Menai, after heavy rain, with lots of mud around and deep water and it just powered through everything whilst more modified and “capable” vehicles with us were getting stuck and frying clutches!

Q: What is the one tool you wouldn’t leave home without?
My Bushranger X-jack exhaust and air jack, modified with a heavy duty rubber/canvas over-bag for really abrasive surfaces; so easy, quick and adaptable that I no longer even carry one of those useless, heavy and damaging HiLifts! Even if you have to dig a bit to get it under the truck when it’s at an angle, it is preferable to fighting with a HiLift!

Q: Do you have any future plans for your truck?
It needs more power so a 6 litre Holden all-alloy L98 EFI V8 conversion with GM LPI (liquid propane injection) is planned for mid 2011. This will work fine with the current transmission using a “Marks” adaptor kit and will lift the power on petrol from 129kw/340nm to 270kw/510nm.

He’s Fast, He’s Furious and he’s firing off all cylinders with a fully charged bottle of NOS! For this tiny but mighty Suziki Sierra hand built by Queensland’s Wild, Rock Crawling Red Nut, Rhett Bryant “it’s allways a wheel base thing.” Krystal Harden from Snake Racing caught up with Rhett up to take a closer look at his Tuff Truck podium placing mini beast.

Starting out from humble stock as a rock beginnings, Rhett’s sierra joined the Bryant family in December of 2002. Picked up from the Ipswich dealership this 89 model Sierra was initially desten to become a mud racer.

Theres no doubt about it, this tough Sierra is special. Rhett joked about using the Sierra as the bridal car. Jennie (Rhetts wife) jokingly told Rhett, “you can use the Sierra if it is spotless.” This was enough of a commitment to encourage Rhett to start a full re-build of the truck and in 2005 the Sierria shone like a diamond as a ‘spotless’ matrimonial chariot.

The Sierra evolved as Rhett’s passion for rock crawling increased. Developing build ideas and fine tuning his fabrication skills until finally in 2007 the extreme-rock-crawler build up phase began. The 4″ grinder and welder became Rhetts most valued tools as he transformed the Sierra into a mini Monster Truck.

9 months later and the Gympie Off Road Suzuki was ready for the Australian rock crawling scene. It was driven for the first time at the Mud, Bulls and Music festival held at Queenslands’s Landcruiser Park in November 2008. Rhett presented the sierra as an unpainted and non-rear steer truck. Choosing not to drive in the Tough Dog Tuff Truck Challenge in 2009 Rhett showcased his driving skills in 2010 where he placed 3rd overall.

An extreme 4×4 enthusiast and experienced competitor Rhett’s Suzuki Sierra not only keeps the bigger 4WD’s honest, he drives it with style. Rhett has a reputation for never giving up and when the going get’s tough use the NOS! If you see Rhett pull up to the starting line, then rest assured your in for a treat. This is the Gympie Off Road Suzukie Sierra under the microscope.

Q: What is the favourite thing about your truck?
A: That’s a hard choice between either the nitrous or the rear steer.

Q: How did you get into 4 wheel driving?
A: Don’t really know. It’s just what I have always been into. I’ve never really played in any other motor sports.

Q: Can you share some of your best build up experiences?
A: I’ve had too many good times building both my and my mates trucks to single out just one experience.

Q: What about some of your worst build up experiences?
A: 10 stitches and a cut artery while mounting up a recovery point.

Q: What is your best four wheel driving moment?
A: Every time I sit in my rig is a great moment. Recently I have been the first to climb some stupidly big rocks, they would have to be up there with my best moments.

Q: What is the one tool you wouldn’t leave home without?
A: My 4” grinder. I built most of my tuck with it.

Q: Do you have any future plans for your truck?
A: I’m going to fit Trail Gear 6 shooter knuckles, pump and a double ended ram to the front steering. I’m upgrading the lower link joints to 7/8 ends and if I don’t have them yet, fit my alloy Allied beadlocks.
